How this site makes money

You should know who pays me before you trust a number on this site.

I'm Gregg. I live in Cortlandt Manor. I built this because Con Edison's rebate rules are confusing enough that most homeowners get quoted the wrong tier — and the difference between two versions of the same job is $5,500.

If you ask to be connected with an installer, I pass your details to a contractor enrolled in NYS Clean Heat. Enrollment isn't a preference on my part: a contractor who isn't enrolled cannot give you the rebate at all. Those contractors may pay me a referral fee.

That fee is paid by the contractor, not by you. It does not change your price, your rebate, or which tier you qualify for.

What money does not affect

  • ✓The amounts shown. Every incentive figure comes from the state's Clean Heat program manual, with the version and date printed on the page. Nobody pays to change a number here.
  • ✓Your estimate. The eligibility tool gives the same answer regardless of who is paying me or whether you ever contact anyone.
  • ✓Ranking. No one can pay to be placed above another contractor.

Am I one of the contractors?

Not today. I don't install equipment and I don't own an HVAC company right now.

I am training to work in this trade, and I may start one. If that happens, and if being connected here could mean being connected to my own company, this page will say so plainly — with the company named — and you will know before you are connected, not after.

Either way: get more than one quote. The rebate is the same whoever installs the system, so comparing costs you nothing.

What I am not

I'm not a neutral referee and I'm not going to pretend to be one. I'm a homeowner in this county who read the program manual closely and wants to work in this trade. The reason to trust the numbers here is that they're sourced and dated, not that I have no stake.
